What is the Purpose of Healing the Self and Spiritual Healing?

When you listen to the calling of your Soul to evolve, to attune to your higher purpose in life or to simply experience a different, happier life - you begin a Spiritual journey. This Spiritual journey is ultimately a healing journey. A healing journey back to Self, to Oneness, to connect with the Divine Aspect of who we truly are – the I AM. This journey is one of courage, strength, forgiveness and ascension!
By and large (but not always) when we finally hear that call of our Soul, we are experiencing some form of great physical, mental, and emotional turmoil in our lives. We can feel broken, lost and deep emotional pain.
Another way to hear the call of your Soul is to have an interest in ‘all things Spiritual’. We want to read the Tarot, Oracle Cards, and learn Palmistry. We want to be able to hear, sense, and see Spirit. We want to learn to meditate, wear hippy clothes, burn incense and use crystals. We want to know our Past Lives, find our “Soulmate” and visit a health retreat in India. We get obsessed with all things Oooogy Boooogy!
But then we start exploring all these exciting things and realise we have stuff, yeah stuff, to get rid of. Not only are we simplifying life by giving up all material possessions and living in a commune or driving around Australia in a campervan – we find out we have emotional stuff to let go of. Yeah, that emotional stuff. Exploring all these wonderful and interesting things has given us the realisation that we choose our experiences. We carry mental and emotional energy from past lives. That heaviness we have ignored and swept under the carpet since childhood has been the result from growing up without a parent, having traumatic experiences, or abuse. We feel like really burdened when working with low vibration colleagues and we hate our life.
We soon learn by practicing meditation we are feeling better than we ever had before and it filters down into the other parts of our lives. That friend of a friend that does some sort of hands on healing makes you feel really good. Like really good! And you find yourself asking yourself how can I get me some more of this?
To come back to the really small paragraph about hearing the call of your Soul by physical, mental and emotional turmoil (which packs a pretty large punch while in the thick of it), we have a few paths ahead of us. Do we continue down the path of crisis and pain or do we see an opportunity to rise above our experience? I guess the first question would be how can we see it as an opportunity? The second is where would we start, where could we go and what can we do?
Everyone’s awakening is different. A common thread seems to be we want more. More than what is being experienced. We want peace. We want the crap to go way. We want love. We want to be happy. We want to understand why. Why me? Why the pain? What have I done? How can I make it stop? And most of all, why am I here and what is the purpose of my life?
When you have your awakening you are in a liminal space of not being quite who you were and not quite the person your becoming. You are at the threshold, a crossroads, an open doorway. Stepping through, you open yourself to an exploration of the self, an exploration of your Soul. You open to the idea and opportunity to explore your emotional patterns, self destructive behaviours and shadows. You face your fears, your challenges and slowly welcome in self love, self compassion and self acceptance.
And you begin to heal. At first you work on and heal the easier parts of yourself. The bits that have been made easily accessible by what you may have read or what a friend might suggest you try. Then comes the deeper stuff, the kind that might require a little outside help, from a spiritual healer, a spiritual teacher or a therapist. As you begin to let more light in and heal a world of opportunity opens up. Synchronicity starts to follow you, perhaps the right book is given to you to read or a workshop comes to town that screams at you to attend.
Yes, opportunity opens and it shows you are on the right track. You notice the little things. Your awareness and ability to read the ‘signs’ comes easier and life flows. While you’re on this Spiritual feast of Beingness life feels fantastic! Your vibration is truly not recognisable from when you began your journey.
That momentum of transformation is hard to maintain as life continues around us and eventually penetrates our protective bubble from time to time. We do revisit parts of our life we feel we have already dealt with and we have the opportunity – yes the opportunity to heal from a higher perspective. Sometimes our tried and true techniques from the past don’t cut it. They don’t seem to work like they did for you back then, so now is the time to be open to trying new techniques of healing, new authors, new workshops. Be open to change. Be open the unknown!
We see changes almost a nano second after we start making changes! We feel different. We think different. We act different. Then we start noticing people are acting different around us. People who are hard work, or bring you down seem to just fall off your radar. The door of opportunity for higher vibration experiences opens up – and you’re realising it! We are always a work in progress.
